Consequences of False Doctrines on a Christian

November 20, 2007

Jesus Christ warned us ahead of time about False Teachings…
We recently took a study at our home fellowship on the effects of false doctrines on a believer. We took a look at Matthew chapters 15 and 23 as Jesus Christ confronted Pharisees and their doctrines. The Consequences of false teachings can be clearly seen as Jesus Christ rebukes the Pharisees in these chapters.

All serious Christians should take the consequences of false teachings seriously and seek to depart from all forms of False Doctrines and ‘Pharisee Leaven’.

Jesus Christ warned us about the Leaven of The Pharisees and Sadducees which is the doctrines and teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees… There are consequences of not putting out the Leaven of the Pharisees from our midst… The End result of accepting false teachings is DAMNATION TO HELL… So, watch out…

Matthew 16:5-12
(5)  And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
(6)  Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
(7)  And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
(8)  Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
(9)  Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
(10)  Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?
(11)  How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
(12)  Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

We are to discern and test all things if they are of God or not… Those who fail to test spirits but believe every spirit face the danger of believing and following demons and devils…

1 John 4:1
(1)  Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

What are False Doctrines?
What are False Doctrines or Pharisee Leaven anyway? These are teachings that contradict God’s Holy Word in one way or the other. These are Teachings that don’t line up with the Wholesome Word of God. These are teachings that contradict the Doctrine (Teachings) of Jesus Christ and the Teachings of the Apostles as we have them in the Epistles in the Bible. Therefore False Doctrines contradict the Teachings of Jesus Christ and of His Apostles as declared to us in God’s Holy Word – The Bible.

False Teachings always point Christians to Man, Man Made Organizations, Denominations, Self, Material things of this world, and how to Please Men. Many times False Doctrines have some element of Truth in them but the end result is always deception. Many times False doctrines might seem to use Scriptures as their basis but in many cases, scriptures are twisted so as to promote a tradition or false teaching…so, watch out.

Many times Christians say that there is no problem sitting under a pastor, preacher, bishop or apostle teaching False Teachings. They claim that they can still sit under such ministers who teach false teachings and simply filter out what is good from what is bad. Such naïve believers are deceived by ministers of false teachings that “fellowship” is more important than Doctrine and that this “fellowship” must never be broken at any cost…this is not what the Bible teaches as we shall see later…

It is imperative that all Christians take personal responsibility to self examine according to God’s Word and see if they still stand in the Faith. It is the personal responsibility that all Christians check what they hear preached and taught to them with God’s Holy Word so that they don’t get deceived. It is the responsibility of every Christian to test spirits to see if they are of God or Not… Hopefully this study will help you in this endeavor…

The Outcome of False Doctrines on Christians – Matthew 15

Legalism and Traditions of Men are obeyed rather than God’s Word…
Matthew 15:1-2
(1)  Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
(2)  Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

The Commandments of God are Transgressed - Disobeyed…
Matthew 15:3-4
(3)  But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
(4)  For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

The Commandments of God are made of no Effect…
Matthew 15:5-6
(5)  But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
(6)  And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

Christians become Hypocrites as a result…
Matthew 15:7
(7)  Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

Christians engage in Vain (Worthless) worship as a result…
Matthew 15:8-9
(8)  This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
(9)  But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Christians become defiled as a result of false doctrines…
Matthew 15:10-11
(10)  And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
(11)  Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Believers in False Doctrines become Offended at Truth always…
Matthew 15:12
(12)  Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

Believers in False Doctrines will be uprooted – no Future for them…
Matthew 15:13
(13)  But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

False Doctrines will always keep believers blind…
Matthew 15:14
(14)  Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

False Doctrines makes you submit to Blind Christian Leaders…
Matthew 15:14
(14)  Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

False Doctrines Lead to Destruction and Hell!
Matthew 15:14
(14)  Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

...this is no joke, it is the responsibility of you as a Christian to check what you are preached to and taught and see if it lines up with Whole Counsel of God’s Holy Word…

False Doctrines will always leave believers without Understanding…
Matthew 15:15-20
(15)  Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
(16)  And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
(17)  Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
(18)  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
(19)  For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
(20)  These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Jesus Christ rebukes Peter and asks “are ye also yet without understanding?”… The Pharisees lacked understanding in this matter… Have you ever asked yourself why sometimes you lack understanding of basic Bible Teachings? Check what you are being taught if it lines up with the Bible…

The Outcome of False Doctrines on Believers – Matthew 23

Christians never practice what they preach – they don’t walk the talk…
Matthew 23:1-3
(1)  Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
(2)  Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
(3)  All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

This is very serious as Jesus Christ said that those who love Him will obey His commandments and do His will… John Chapters 14, 15, 16… So, when Christians fail to do what God Commands, it is disobedience but this comes many times because of sitting under false teachers and consuming false doctrines…

Believers suffer from Heavy Burdens laid upon them by their leaders…
Matthew 23:4
(4)  For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

I know many Christians who are in churches where they meet and minister yet Christianity is a heavy burden to them. The things that their preachers tell them to do are a heavy yoke that even the preachers cannot do…from financial giving to church growth projects…all a heavy burden and yoke on believers as a result of false teachings…

Christians become Men Pleasers as a result…
Matthew 23:5
(5)  But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Today Christendom is filled with men pleasers as a result of Christians being recipients of false teachings from Pharisee preachers…

Christians to works to be seen by men and love big ‘Titles’…
Matthew 23:5-7
(5)  But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
(6)  And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
(7)  And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

Christians under the influence of false teachings will love to do works to be seen by men. They love the big titles just like their preachers do…Pastors, Apostle, Bishop, CEO, Dr, etc…

Christians become Attention Seekers as a result…
Matthew 23:5-7
(5)  But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
(6)  And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
(7)  And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

Pharisees loved the best rooms at feasts and front seats in churches and acknowledgments in the market place…to be called by their big titles… All this is simply attention seeking… a result of taking in false teachings…

False teachings point people to Man rather than Jesus Christ…
Matthew 23:8-11
(8)  But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
(9)  And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
(10)  Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
(11)  But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Many believers today seek Man, they falsely submit to Man rather than Christ. False teachers and false ministers seek people to look to them and that people seek prayers, healings, miracles, and solutions from them rather than Christ Jesus. False ministers try to act as mediators between the believers and Jesus Christ…this is blasphemy. We are free to approach the Throne of Grace at any time and directly to Jesus Christ with NO intermediaries. The current belief of ministers and pastors acting as intermediaries between believers and Jesus Christ is a Catholic Doctrine of venerating dead saints…

False teachings create false submissions…
Matthew 23:8-11
(8)  But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
(9)  And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
(10)  Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
(11)  But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

False teachings cause believers to submit to false leaders. Jesus Christ says we are to call NO one ‘Teacher’, ‘Master’, or ‘Father’…we are ALL brethren… Those of us whom God has given grace to minister or in any position of leadership should never abuse such grace to gain cheap popularity and  manipulate and control the saints of God…we are ALL Brethren…lets stay humble at that…

False doctrines cause self exaltation…
Matthew 23:12
(12)  And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
We are warned in the Bible against self exaltation and high-mindedness…today the prosperity gospel, purpose driven gospel, and positive thinking gospel have led Christians astray into self exaltation and being puffed up in the name of going to “the next level” and not associating with those of the “low level”…

False doctrines will cause you NOT to enter the Kingdom of Heaven…
Matthew 23:13
(13)  But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

As I said earlier, this is no joke; false teachings lead souls to Hell!

False Teachings cause Defrauding of the Saints…
Matthew 23:14
(14)  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

This one should be clear to all as we all witness on Christian TV especially TBN how believers are defrauded and their money taken away in the name of Prosperity gospel…

False Teachings Breed False Conversions and False Converts…
Matthew 23:15
(15)  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

False teachers conduct evangelical mission trips overseas only to make converts who are worse than themselves. Prosperity preachers in Africa who are disciples of western prosperity preachers are worse off than their spiritual fathers in regards greed, defraud, and extortion of the saints…

False Teachings cause False Swearing; often gain as the motive…
Matthew 23:16-22
(16)  Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
(17)  Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
(18)  And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
(19)  Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift
(20)  Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
(21)  And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
(22)  And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

Pharisees swear hypocritically with gain as the motive. Jesus Christ teaches that we should not swear by Heaven or Earth but our yes, should be yes and our no should be no, anything else comes from the evil one…Matthew 5:35-37…
False Teachings cause Christians to become Foolish and Blind…

Foolishness and blindness become the order of the day when Christians submit to false teachings. Paul the apostle asked the Galatians who had bewitched them that they had become foolish by accepting false teachings…Galatians 3…

False Teachings emphasis Tithing and Money…
Matthew 23:23
(23)  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

It is not surprising that believers are subjected by Pastors to pay a church tax called the Tithe and huge emphasis is placed on the tithe by prosperity preachers who promise heaven on earth for believers who will pay them the tithe… Giving to the poor, widows, orphans, Justice and Mercy are neglected…

False teachings cause deliberate oversight…
Matthew 23:24
(24)  Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

Emphasis is placed on things like church buildings and yet righteousness and holiness is ignored… Believers can get excommunicated for a small offence in a church yet the Pastor who divorces his wife and marries another for no apparent reason is given a standing ovation…

False Teachings cause extortion and excess (Self-indulgency)…
Matthew 23:25
(25)  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Many saints have suffered from extortion and defraud from false teachings by false ministers in the name of prosperity and “supporting of God’s Work” by buying a Gulf Stream Jet for the “Man of God”…

False Teachings cause false righteousness…
Matthew 23:26-28
(26)  Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
(27)  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
(28)  Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Believers who continue to submit themselves under false teachings will become like the false teachers that teach them. They will appear righteous before Man but inside are full of wickedness and evil… Christianity today has become a religion that looks ‘cool’ and holy outside but inside is filled with all sorts of sin and evil as a result of false teachings…

False Teachings lead to the Murder of the True Prophets of God’s…
Matthew 23:29-31
(29)  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchers of the righteous,
(30)  And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
(31)  Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

It was the Pharisees and their followers that hated Jesus Christ and planned on how to murder him. The Apostles in the Book of Acts were repeatedly persecuted and some murdered at the hands of the Pharisees… Persecution in the Last days is going to start (or has started) in the Church were false believers turn against the True Saints of God and hate them and betray them, turning them over to the authorities to be imprisoned and killed.

This is the betrayal Jesus Christ spoke about in Matthew 24… This trend can be seen in China and other places where Christians are betrayed by religious believers secretly planted in among them… As I hinted on earlier, those who believe in false teachings will always be offended at truth and hate those who love truth…

False Teachings cause serpent and viper like behaviour…
Matthew 23:32-33
(32)  Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
(33)  Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Serpents and vipers represent deception…as we see in Genesis how Eve was deceived by Satan who came to her in a form of a Serpent. Serpents and Vipers camouflage and hide to be undetected until they strike at their prey. Many False Teachings will come in very subtle ways often hiding under some Truth or using some scripture… Vipers can hide in an area and when found seem to look like they are dead, yet that is a trick to strike at their prey…

False Teachers will come in very humbly with a very godly like character, humility, prayer, and fasting. They will sometimes care for the poor, visit, the orphans, care for the sick and those in prisons, yet many times they are using these works to promote false teachings. Today the Purpose Driven Life Preacher, Rick Warren does just that, yet the doctrines he promotes are contrary to scripture… Brethren, watch out for serpents and vipers…

False Teachings will cause Persecution and Murder of the Righteous…
Matthew 23:34-36
(34)  Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
(35)  That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zechariah son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
(36)  Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

As I have already hinted on this earlier, the end result of false teachings is going to be persecution and murder of the righteous. Jesus Christ has warned us about this that we beware of the Leaven of the Pharisees. It leads to murder and Hell! As I said earlier, those who hold to false teachings will end up persecuting and murdering the true believers in Jesus Christ.

It is time that you examine all that you believe before it is too late.  Jesus Christ placed the Blood of all the righteous who were killed from Abel to Zechariah on the feet of the Pharisees. We don’t want to be part of such a team because The Lord will avenge strongly for His Saints… However, False Teachings is one way believers can sell out and be part of the murderous Pharisee team… You don’t have to be a part of it…

False Teachings will Cause your House to be Left Desolate…
Matthew 23:37-39
(37)  O <
