Maturity and Watchful Discernment

By Arthur Owiti

We are encouraged in the book of Hebrews 5- 6 to go on unto maturity. We are to grow into the full measure of Christ as we fellowship with Jesus Christ and his word and with brethren as we edify one another both spiritually and physically.

However, due to Gentile Spiritual leadership which hates edification of the saints and false doctrines. For one to discern both good and evil, he has to have maturity. This is why a baby cannot be a leader since he is not mature or grown up to tell difference between good and bad; and this growth takes time.

As Christians we should exercise our senses like growing child to reach maturity; it is our knowledge of Jesus Christ that will help us escape the pollutions of this world. Let us exercise our eyes in reading the word and watching for the signs of Matthew 24 which include deception and; Let us exercise the ears in hearing the word and leading of the Holy Spirit, sound doctrine and fellowship with true brethren.

Let us exercise our hands and feet by doing the word of God, good works, witness and labor of love in Christ Jesus and for him and not to be seen of men. Let us exercise our tongue in prayer, intercession and thanksgiving. Feed on the word of God daily.

It is by reason of the exercise of the senses, which leads to maturity that we will discern both good and evil in these last days. Let us grow as we pray and edify one another to perfection and the full measure of Christ.

Babes -- Immaturity

Man--- Maturity

Needs milk to grow—the basic principles of the oracles of God

Needs solid food to grow –learns the hard things of Jesus Christ

Their senses have not been exercised ,still young

Senses have been exercised—sense of sight, smell hearing is more developed and can explain what they know

Is not of full age therefore cannot understand hard things

Is of full age and thus can grasp hard things

Dull of hearing and sight in the sense that has little knowledge of the things around them

Sharp hearing and sight can tell what is noise and what is orderly sound

Cannot discern both good and evil alone/NO DISCERNMENT

Can discern both good and evil based on the knowledge they have/DISCERNMENT

Less use of the senses because is not full grown up

More use of the senses because has been growing and is of full age and has experience

No firm understanding/ Ignorance

Firm understanding/knowledge

Unskillful in the word of righteousness

Skilful in the word of righteousness because can discern both good and evil

Carried away by every wind of doctrine

Stands firm on the true doctrine of Christ

Cannot teach others

Can teach others

Deception and the Doctrine of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ warned all about deception in the last days. One can affirm his words, for since his ascension and the day of Pentecost, deception as been on the rise and in some cases institutionalized.

When one looks at it discerningly, deception twists the doctrine of Christ. Like a house built on a foundation, deception attacks the foundation of the doctrine of Christ to make one’s faith be built on a weak foundation thus making the faith weak, dim, overthrown and ultimately to destruction.

Most last days deception in the church can be seen to be a diluting or leavening of the wholesome words of Jesus Christ and what Hebrews 6 calls the foundation of the doctrine of Christ. It is important for a Christian to have spiritual knowledge on what the word of God says on:

•    Repentance of dead works—repentance
•    Faith toward God--- what faith is
•    Doctrine of baptisms--- baptisms
•    Laying on of hands--- concerns The Holy Spirit
•    Resurrection of the dead--- The resurrection of Christ and the last day resurrection eg. Pre-trib, amillenial etc
•    Eternal judgment --- who is to be judged and what will happen then ,etc

Thus in these last days ,let us have this milk, or basic principles settled only in the word of God and hidden in our hearts for they will and have been receiving assault from the arrows of deception and only those who re blind will be led astray. Jesus Christ is our foundation and the church is the pillar of truth.
